1 Timothy Series – Part 5

November 3, 2019

Rev. Michael J. Lee

As we look at chapter 5 it focuses on relationships within the church. God is so practical when it comes to instructions to help discern priorities regarding care for others. A statement that can sometimes be used flippantly, can also carry a great deal of weight. Take Care! What is Paul saying to Timothy about taking care?

In this chapter verses 1-5 present the problem. In a wonderful way God always has a solution to the problem. The apostle Paul in response to the concern about the influence false teachers, says, train yourselves for Godliness. What does that look like?

1 Timothy Series – Part 3

At the heart of Paul’s passion for Timothy to convey to the church is the importance of the qualifications to serve. Why? Verse 15 says that the church of the living God is the pillar and foundation of truth. The list of qualifications sounds very restrictive, even exclusive. Truth is it’s a contention for the faith. It is like the Beatitudes. May seem like an impossible bar to reach, but that’s absolutely it! It can’t be done without God.

The success of the church is dependent on the quality of it’s leadership, just as the strength of a home is shaped by the commitment of its leadership. Is this just a leadership thing? Perhaps the qualifications are meant to serve a much larger group?

Thanksgiving! The Greek word for thanksgiving as an aspect of prayer in Paul’s instruction to Timothy comes from the word Eucharistias. Sound familiar? The Eucharist. Communing with God. Teach the church to pray with thanksgiving. Thanks to God for who He is, what He does, and has done. In remembrance. Thanksgiving. Do this in remembrance of me.

Rev. Michael J. Lee

As Paul is commanded to contend for the faith, he commissions Timothy in Ephesus to take a stand against false teaching. How do you deal with conflict and confronting sin? 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Paul in humility says I was the worst of sinners and God showed me mercy. The presentation of truth is in a spirit of mercy/grace.

What Do You Long For? A Church That Is Building Community

September 29, 2019

Rev. Michael J. Lee

All buildings require a good foundation for them to endure. Some would say if you want to build a great community you need to operate on Love & Grace. Love is powerful but it is purely subjective. Sometimes there is a temptation to give up an emphasis on doctrine so we can reach people.

John 1:14 The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. The Son has come from the Father and what is he full of? Grace and…Truth. A truly Godly community has to be built on Truth and Grace. This is Love, this is community.

What Do You Long For? I Long To Pastor The Greatest Church

September 22, 2019

Rev. Michael J. Lee

Sounds like a pretty bold, even proud statement for a guy like myself to make. It depends on your definition of greatest. We are shaped by our culture and its expectations and so too were the disciples who followed Jesus. They thought the ride with Jesus was going to lead Israel back to a place of prominence and power. Guess what? They wanted a front row seat. A seat of honour. This sermon breaks down Jesus response to the true definition of greatness.

September 15, 2019

Rev. Michael J. Lee

John 1 states clearly a foundation for life. In the beginning. That beginning makes Jesus a central figure as the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:12 says “yet to all who did receive him who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God.” Today’s sermon brings encouragement to Receive, Believe, and Live authentically before God and man!

What Do You Long For (IV)?

September 1, 2019

Rev. Michael J. Lee

As I read this chapter we see Kings rising up against Kings trusting in their numbers for victory in battle. When Abram was told God would make him into a great nation I never thought that even before he was great in the eyes of those around him he would already have over three hundred men trained for battle. Today’s sermon asks the question, are you battle ready?

What Do You Long For (III)?

August 25, 2019

Rev. Michael J. Lee

The greatest longings are rooted in God. Abram had a “God said” moment and it set so many things in motion. Read carefully Genesis 13 and discover the motivation and character of someone moved by a longing. God said I will Bless you AND I will make you a blessing.
